Styrax benzoin, Styrax paralleloneurus, Styrax tonkinesis; parts used: resin; uses: antiseptic, wound healing, expectorant, bronchial conditions; precautions: may cause rash, allergic reactions, contact dermatitis, gastrointestinal hemorrhage upon ingestion. Also called
Benjamin tree, benzoe, benzoin tree, gum benjamin, Siam benzoin, or
Sumatra benzoin.

benzoin
a balsamic resin from Styrax benzoin and other Styrax species, used chiefly as a topical protectant and antiseptic. Benzoin acts as an expectorant and thus is sometimes used in steam inhalations in treating respiratory disorders.
