Basedow's goiter

Etymology: Karl A. von Basedow, German physician, 1799-1854
a name for colloid goiter, which is an enlargement of the thyroid gland, characterized by the hypersecretion of thyroid hormone after iodine therapy. The condition causes increased basal metabolic rate, insomnia, and fine motor tremor.
