barrel distortion,
outward bowing of gridded straight lines in an image, resulting from lens distortion such that the lateral magnification at the center of the image is greater than that at the edges.

Barrel distortion is associated with wide angle lenses and typically occurs at the wide end of a zoom lens.
BARREL DISTORTION A distortion in a monitor due to non uniform scanning which causes the image to appear to bulge outward like a barrel.
