BAB born after the ban; refers to cattle born in the UK after the 1988 ban on feeding meat and bone meal to ruminants that developed bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE). BAB cattle occurred because of a lack of enforcement of the ban, illegal use, and because of cross contamination of cattle fed with infected meat and bone meal in feed mills that prepared feed for all animal species. As a result, the subsequent ban was on the feeding of any ruminant protein to any animals in the UK. How to thank TFD for its existence?
