Etymology: William W. Babcock, American surgeon, 1872-1963
the removal of a varicosed saphenous vein by insertion of an acorn-tipped sound, tying the vein to the sound, and drawing it out.

The formal designation for the stripping of varicose veins (of the lower extremity), a procedure that is no longer eponymously dignified.
