Ray Rogers, chairman of API, adds, "There are current initiatives by the National Cattlemen Beef Association, American Association of Bovine Practitioners, The Academy of Veterinary Consultants, plus state livestock associations to develop effective control programs for BVDV.
Together with the arboviruses, BVDV and SFV have been shown to be highly susceptible to inactivation under mildly acidic conditions (low pH).
Collectively, the study results demonstrate that the rigorous virus inactivation steps currently used by Aventis Behring in the production of plasma-derived products successfully inactivate WNV and BVDV (and related viruses).
