University of Amsterdam researchers found BMP7 expressed in mechanical loading, connecting weight-bearing to increased bone strength.
BMP7s are also expressed in cancer, and they inhibit vascular calcification, or hardening of the arteries.
We are continuing to build our portfolio of key brown fat intellectual property, and this BMP7 technology discovered by one of our co-founders is an important and strategic addition," said Louis Tartaglia, Ph.
Tseng and colleagues reported the discovery that a protein called BMP7 could induce brown fat formation.
We are pleased to have the opportunity to further develop this BMP7 technology," said Louis Tartaglia, Ph.
Under the agreement, Ember has the exclusive license to intellectual property from Joslin covering BMP7 technology, including a number of patented discoveries related to the use of the protein BMP7 to manipulate brown fat for the purpose of controlling glucose levels and managing weight.
He also will disclose new data on the cell lines: SK17 that have the potential to differentiate into cells that express renin and smooth muscle cell-related genes characteristic of the juxtaglomerular apparatus of the kidney, Z2 that when differentiated using a proprietary protocol expresses relatively high levels of the bone growth factor genes BMP2 and BMP7 (also known as osteogenic protein-1 (OP-1), and J16 that expresses preadipocyte markers of interest to researchers in cosmetic dermatology and type II diabetes.
