amastigote /amas·ti·gote/ (ah-mas´tĭ-gōt) the nonflagellate, intracellular, morphologic stage in the development of certain hemoflagellates, resembling the typical adult form of Leishmania.
amastigote an early stage in the life cycle of trypanosomes, found in invertebrates. The body is rounded and the flagellum is absent or represented by a short fibril. The kinetoplast is present.
