av·i·din (v-dn)
n.
A protein, found in uncooked egg white, that binds to and inactivates biotin and which, when present in abundance, can result in a deficiency of biotin.

avidin,
a glycoprotein in raw egg white that interacts with biotin to make it unavailable to the body. Cooking destroys avidin.

avidin (av´idin),
n a glycoprotein in nondenatured egg whites (raw) that binds biotin and prevents its absorption, causing biotin depletion.

This method is based on the template synthesis of SIP microrods, where we use poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) as the molecular recognition matrix, which is formed within the pores of a track-etched polycarbonate membrane (PCM), modified with a target protein--fluorescently labelled avidin (Av-FITC).
Indirectly labeled probes have a reporter molecule such as biotin or digoxigenin attached covalently, requiring the additional step of the application of a fluorophore-labeled avidin or fluorophore-labeled antidigoxigenin.
50 Hardcover Methods in molecular biology QP601 Biomedical researchers in Europe and North America explain the application of laboratory methodology that exploits the powerful interaction between the protein avidin or its homolog, and the vitamin biotin and some of its homolog.
