| Ironically, as Lasch later recalled, he was steeled in his break by reading some of the essays of the Frankfurt School social philosopher Max Horkheimer, one of the authors of The Authoritarian Personality. The Plot Against America could be considered the literary descendant of The Authoritarian Personality, a post-WWII study published by a group of Marxist academics led by Theodor Adorno. Nonetheless, a spate of extra-formal coverage soon appeared in the magazine's pages--from Kozloff's own follow-up, "The Authoritarian Personality in Modern Art" (May 1974) to Carol Duncan's "Virility and Domination in Early 20th-Century Vanguard Painting" (December 1973) and culminating with the so-called Art and Politics issue of December 1975. |
