Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF), an organization that studies the long-term effects of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II on survivors. The RERF has focused on the incidence of leukemia, which reached a plateau around 1950 before beginning to decline, and has examined the varied effects related to the different types of radiation produced by the two bombs, one fueled with uranium and the other with plutonium.
