Patient discussion about Atkins' diet.

Q. Atkins diet? Is it good as it sounds? I'm 17..about 5'2 145 lbs.. I need to lose as much weight as possible in 3 weeks ..Anyone know what kind of results i can expect on atkins?

A. the atkins is a fad diet. because the atkins is high in protein it suppresses your appetite and you won't feel hungry so you'll eat less while still being full. as ideal as that sounds it doesn't work for long term weight loss. it is proven that once you begin to eat normally again the weight will come back on and possibly even more. carb free diets are the worst because you crave carbs like crazy and once you finally let yourself eat some you'll most likely binge. i've seen it happen to so many people. then once they start, they continue to
binge and before you know it the weight is back. it's not a healthy diet, trust me

Q. This is Maria and on the Atkins diet. Can anybody tell me how many calories can I take for one meal?

A. I really appreciate you for your Atkins diet. I recommend you to eat until you are not hungry anymore, and then stop. You don't worry about calories until you're near your goal weight.

Q. Atkins diet I've tried this diet many times but always found difficulty to prolong it. Even when succeeded the weight came rushing back. Can someone please explain me how it works and pros and cons of it?

A. You can read about the controversy surrounding Atkins' diet here. In my opinion, you should switch from "going in" a temporary diet to changing your life style. If you diet for three months, and then return to your old habits (which are the ones that brought you to your weight), it's not surprising you gain the weight back. Our weight reflects, in many ways, our life style, so this should be the focus and not a temporary diet.

Good luck!
