an antibiotic used in treatment of mild to moderate Pneumocystis pneumonia and the prevention and treatment of falciparum malaria. It is administered orally.

drug class: antipneumocystic;
action: unknown, may inhibit synthesis of ATP and nucleic acids;
uses: treatment of
Pneumocystis jiroveci (carinii) pneumonia in patients who are intolerant of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole.
