1. pertaining to asynchronism.
2. in cardiac pacing terminology, said of a pacemaker that cannot sense any spontaneous underlying cardiac electrical activity, so that pacing is done at a fixed, constant rate.

(of an event or device) a computer operation in one command performed in response to a signal that the previous command has been completed. One operation is completed before the next is initiated.
