Asperger syndrome Children who have autistic behavior but no problems with language. Mentioned in: Autism Patient discussion about Asbergers. Q. What is the difference between Asperger's Syndrome and Autism? My 3 year old nephew has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. Is this the same as Autism? A. The difference between Asperger's Syndrome and autism is the severity of the symptoms and the absence of language delays. Children with Asperger's may be only mildly affected and frequently have good language and cognitive skills. Children with Asperger's may seem just like a normal child behaving differently. They may be socially awkward, not understanding of conventional social rules, or show a lack of empathy. They may make limited eye contact, seem to be unengaged in a conversation, and not understand the use of gestures. One of the major differences between them is that there is no speech delay in Asperger's. In fact, children with Asperger's frequently have good language skills; they simply use language in different ways. Another distinction between Asperger's Syndrome and autism concerns cognitive ability. While some individuals with autism experience mental retardation, those with Asperger's do not. Q. My brother has Asperger Syndrome, what should we do? Thank you for your attention! My brother has Asperger Syndrome, which is also known as very high function autism. As he has grown, he has become intelligent, and he is a fully functional boy. He plays his video games, does his homework, very social, and he is a normal boy. Yeah, he may seem a bit weird (like he may talk to himself, and be loud) but he’s fully functional. He is in the 8th grade, today my mother went to an interview for his high school future. The lady wants to put him with the autistic children!?! I want him to go to basic a class that’s the lowest and easiest level, but my mom is upset, and we are worried they won't let him....what should we do? A. it is an uneasy problem. i understand your point of view- putting him in a regular classroom can boost his development and putting him in a special classroom can cause a retardation in development. but i also understand your mother, children can be very cruel. he can get harassed and bullied and that will cause a problem too. but you can avoid that by confronting the class before he enters it and explain the situation. Q. I recently heard about Aspergers.. I knew that it is a type of Autism. Any help is appreciated. Dear friends, I recently heard about Aspergers. My sister had many issues while communicating her needs and she was not free with everyone. She was self centered and very rigid. We thought that she was extremely shy but as days passed, she got in to more problems. In her school recently when she was asked to play with other children, she was so scared that she did hide herself inside the restroom and never came out. She was there the whole night and we did search for her long time. She was crying the whole night and did not answer any questions and we realized that she was in a great mess. We took her to the doctor and she is diagnosed with Aspergers. I love my sister and I have wonderful parents. I would love to have my sister enjoy her childhood. I feel as a loving brother, It is my responsibility to save her from the current pain she is undergoing. I need to know more on Aspergers. I knew that it is a type of Autism but can someone here understand my concern. Any help is appreciated. A.
