316) describes as "spirit figures"--can be identified as representations of the cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis or Ardeola ibis; see Kramer 1972:204-7, Alden 1995:658-9), as recorded by Haselberger (1969:218), or the yellow-billed oxpecker (Buphagus africanus; see also Benson 1972:475, Alden 1995:883-4), or perhaps a combination of both.
Unconfirmed record of Rufous Night-heron Nycticorax caledonicus (BS) would be the first documented for Kalimantan; Chinese Pond-heron Ardeola bachus is a very rare visitor to Borneo and its records (LJ; AJ) should be confirmed.
