eunuch /eu·nuch/ (u´nik) a male deprived of the testes or external genitals, especially one castrated before puberty (so that male secondary sex characteristics fail to develop).
eunuch [yo̅o̅′nək] Etymology: Gk, eune, couch, echein, to guard a male whose testicles have been destroyed or removed. If this occurs before puberty, secondary sex characteristics fail to develop, and symptoms such as a feminine voice and absence of facial hair can result from the reduced level of male hormones in the blood.
