The inclusion criteria for full-term infants were: gestational age of 38 to 42 weeks, no maternal or perinatal complications, normal status on newborn examination, and birth weight appropriate for gestational age.
Researchers compared the cognitive development of 220 term children born small for gestational age (SGA) and 299 term children born appropriate for gestational age (AGA), using assessment scales at 13 months and five years of age.
Fifteen were full-term infants delivered at 39 to 41 weeks' gestational age (GA) who met the following criteria: (1) singleton birth; (2) vaginal vertex delivery; (3) appropriate for gestational age (AGA) with respect to head circumference, weight, and length; and (4) healthy as determined by a pediatric physical examination.
