Appaloosa
a breed of small riding horses, native to the northwest of the USA, characterized by an irregularly mottled skin and hooves that are vertically striped in black and white. The color patterns vary greatly, but in general there is spotting, speckling or roaning, which can be over the entire body or confined to certain areas, usually the loin and hindquarters. This can be black or brown on a white background or white on a colored background. The breed is known to carry an inherited night blindness.
