Last night relatives of 19-year-old Anthony Leedham, left, spoke of their heartache after he died as a result of aplastic anaemia, a rare blood disorder.
Anthony Leedham, from Harton in South Shields, was due to celebrate his 20th birthday in a few days, but died on Friday as a result of aplastic anaemia - a condition that affects just one in 500,000 people each year.
Persons with aplastic anemia often feel tired and have hearts that have to work harder to pump blood to the body's tissues and organs; this causes stress that, over time, can cause an irregular heart beat, an enlarged heart, or possibly heart failure.
