Mechanisms underlying the evolution and maintenance of functionally heterogeneous 18S rRNA genes in apicomplexans. Occurrence of apicomplexan diseases (parasite) in kidney, heart, and intestine and unidentified ovarian parasite in ovary in the unexposed, control, and exposed clams were counted. The complete 18S ribosomal RNA (18S rRNA) gene from the patient's parasite was amplified by PCR, with a pair of apicomplexan 18S rRNA-specific primers: CRYPTOF (5'-AACCTGGTTGATCCTGCCAGT-3') and CRYPTOR (5'-GCTTGATCCTTCTGCAGGTTCACCTAC-3'). |
