| Nearly 100 percent of light can travel through one of Rubner's nanocoated glass surfaces, whereas 97 to 98 percent passes through currently available anti-reflection coatings and only 92 percent passes through untreated glass, he says. By using a reflecting layer underneath the detector metal layer (tungsten) and a single layer anti-reflection coating above the tungsten, the quantum efficiency of a photon being absorbed in the tungsten can be significantly enhanced.
