a triangular area bounded by the median line of the neck in front, the lower border of the mandible, and a line extending back to the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

A 42-year-old man was referred by his general practitioner to our regional ENT department for evaluation of a 2-day history of fever and a tender, swollen mass in the upper anterior triangle on the right side.
Examination revealed the presence of a firm, mobile, 2 x 2-cm swelling in the anterior triangle on the left side.
While normal development of the second branchial cleft entails the formation of the skin of the anterior triangle of the neck, deviations from this norm may occur anywhere from the anterior triangle to the tonsillar fossa.
