Begin at the top of the manubrium at the jugular notch and palpate inferiorly until the angle of Louis is felt.
The highest point of visible pulsation is determined as the trunk and head arc elevated, and the vertical distance between this level and the level of the sternal angle of Louis is recorded, as well as the angle of elevation of the patient.
