amoxicillin, amoxycillin an aminopenicillin, similar in action to ampicillin and susceptible to β-lactamase, but more efficiently absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and with a longer duration of action. amoxicillin-clavulanic acid addition of clavulanic acid widens the spectrum of activity and renders amoxicillin resistant to β-lactamase.
