transaminase (transam´inās),
n one of several enzymes involved in the reversible transfer of an amino (NH2) group from an α-amino acid to an α-ketoacid, especially α-ketoglutaric acid. Characteristic high values are seen in myocardial infarction and viral hepatitis.
