American hellebore, n.pr Latin name: Veratrum viride parts used: rhizomes (dried), roots; uses: anti-convulsant, pneumonia, nerve pain, (under research: myasthenia gravis, hypertensive crisis, hypertension caused by pregnancy); precautions: pregnancy, lactation, children, patients with heart disorders; can cause hypertension, hypotension, bradycardia, arrthythmias, dizziness, paresthesia, convulsions, nausea, stomach cramps, hampered breathing, diarrhea, burning throat, coma, paralysis.
