amenorrhoea

The absence of menstruation. This is normal before puberty and after the menopause. During the reproductive years, the commonest causes are pregnancy and LACTATION, but it can be caused by a number of hormonal and other disorders.

absence of menstruation. primary amenorrhoea when the menstrual periods have not started by the appropriate age. secondary amenorrhoea when periods stop after they have been established. See also female athletic triad.
