A gene on chromosome 20p13 that encodes alpha-1D-adrenergic receptor, a member of the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily, which activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system, triggering mitogenic responses and regulating growth, proliferation and signalling through the Gq/11 family of G-proteins.
