Agrobacterium,
an environmental gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacillus. A. tumefaciens has been implicated in health care-associated urinary tract infections, peritonitis, wound infections, prosthetic valve endocarditis, and sepsis.

Agrobacterium tumefaciens: From Plant Pathology to Biotechnology
It was done with Agrobacterium tumefaciens, a naturally occurring pathogenic bacterium capable of transferring its DNA to the cells of host plants and forming crown galls.
But this beneficial bacterium has virtually all the genes found in Agrobacterium, a pathogen.
