Adrenal gland

adrenal gland n. Either of two small, dissimilarly shaped endocrine glands, one located above each kidney, consisting of the cortex, which secretes several steroid hormones, and the medulla, which secretes epinephrine. Also called epinephros, paranephros, suprarenal gland.

adrenal gland tumors

includes myelolipoma and cortical adenomas and carcinomas. Cause local tissue compression and the adenomas and carcinomas can cause hypersecretion of cortisol. Tumors specific to the medulla include neuroblastoma and ganglioneuroma, both of which may cause local tissue compression.
