Adenoviridae /Ad·e·no·vi·ri·dae/ (ad″ĕ-no-vir´ĭ-de) the adenoviruses: a family of DNA viruses with a double-stranded genome, generally with a narrow host range, and transferred by direct or indirect transmission; it includes the genus Mastadenovirus .
adenosine ( n a compound derived from nucleic acid, composed of adenine and a sugar, D-ribose. Major molecular component of nucleotides and the nucleic acids. adenosine monophosphate (AMP), n an ester, composed of adenine, D-ribose, and phosphoric acid, that affects energy release in work done by a muscle. adenosine triphosphate (ATP), n a compound consisting of the nucleotide adenosine attached through its ribose group to three phosphoric acid molecules. Stores energy in muscles, which is released when it is hydrolized to adenosine diphosphate. Adenoviridae n a family of unenveloped, 20-sided DNA viruses found in mammals (Mastadenovirus) and birds (Aviadenovirus). The human variety can cause a number of diseases, from conjunctivitis to urinary tract infection. Adenoviridae the family of viruses containing two genera, Mastadenovirus, which are the mammalian adenoviruses, and Aviadenovirus, which contain the bird adenoviruses. Virons are nonenveloped, 70 nm diameter and contain a double-stranded DNA molecule of about 30 to 35 kilobase pairs. They grow in cell cultures producing cytopathology and each species has a relatively narrow host range. Adenoviruses are common causes of relatively mild upper respiratory disease and of enteric infections. The type species is human adenovirus h1. How to thank TFD for its existence? The performance of the GreeneChip system was initially tested in
GreeneChipVr hybridizations that used extracts of cultured cells
infected with adenoviruses, alphaviruses, arenaviruses, coronaviruses,
enteroviruses, filoviruses, flaviviruses, herpesviruses,
orthomyxoviruses, paramyxoviruses, poxviruses, reoviruses, and
rhabdoviruses (49 viruses). Immunologist Andrea Gambotto and his colleagues at the University
of Pittsburgh School of Medicine devised a vaccine using three
common-cold adenoviruses, each genetically modified to produce a protein
from the coronavirus that causes SARS. Human adenoviruses and coliphages in
urban runoff impacted coastal waters of Southern California. |
