A organic radical having the general formula RCO, derived from the removal of a hydroxyl group from an organic acid.

acyl CoA dehydrogenase deficiency
lack of the first enzyme of beta-oxidation, acyl CoA dehydrogenase, a flavoprotein which catalyzes the removal of two hydrogens from the acyl chain.
