facial nerve paralysis,
a loss of voluntary control of the muscles of the face, usually on one side. The condition may be caused by a lesion involving the facial muscles or a nerve peripheral to the nucleus or by damage elsewhere in the brainstem or cerebrum. Weakness may be limited to the lower portion of the face, depending on the site of the lesion and the tracts involved. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
