Actinobacillus

 [ak″tĭ-no-bah-sil´us]
a genus of gram-negative, nonmotile, coccoid or rod-shaped bacteria that are part of the normal microflora of mammals. The organisms are capable of infecting cattle and other domestic animals and, rarely, are associated with human infection; A. ligniere´sii is the causative agent of actinobacillosis.

Actinobacillus

(ak'tin-ō-bă-sil'lŭs),
A genus of small, nonmotile, non-spore-forming, aerobic, facultatively anaerobic bacteria containing gram-negative rods interspersed with coccal elements. The metabolism of these bacteria is fermentative. They are pathogenic to animals. The type species is Actinobacillus lignieresii.
[actino- + L. bacillus, a little rod]

Actinobacillus

/Ac·ti·no·bac·il·lus/ (-bah-sil´us) a genus of potentially pathogenic schizomycetes (family Pasteurellaceae), causing granulomatous lesions.

Actinobacillus

[ak′tinōbasil′əs]
a genus of small, gram-negative bacillus, with members that are pathogenic for humans and other animals. The species Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is the cause of actinomycosis in humans.

(ak'tin-ō-bă-sil'ŭs)
A genus of nonmotile, non-spore-forming, aerobic, facultatively anaerobic bacteria (family Brucellaceae) containing gram-negative rods interspersed with coccal elements. The metabolism of these bacteria is fermentative. They are pathogenic to animals. The type species is A. lignieresii.

Actinobacillus

a genus of bacteria which are gram-negative, pleomorphic rods.

Actinobacillus actinoides
a secondary agent in seminal vesiculitis in bulls and enzootic pneumonia in calves.
Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans
associated with epididymitis in rams and periodontal disease and endocarditis in humans.
Actinobacillus capsulatus
the cause of arthritis and septicemia in rabbits.
Actinobacillus equuli
the cause of septicemia and subsequent focal lesions in young foals and also peritonitis in adult horses. Previously called Shigella equirulis.
Actinobacillus lignieresi
the cause of actinobacillosis of cattle and sheep, and occasionally in pigs, dogs and humans.
Actinobacillus mallei
see burkholderiamallei.
Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae
causes severe pleuropneumonia and pleuritis in pigs. Previously Haemophilus pleuropneumoniae.
Actinobacillus salpingitidis
the proposed name for a bacteria which is isolatable from cases of salpingitis, peritonitis, airsacculitis and pneumonia in birds. Called also Pasteurella salpingitis.
Actinobacillus seminis
the cause of epididymitis and periorchitis in rams.
Actinobacillus suis
the cause of septicemia and subsequent focal lesions in young pigs.
Actinobacillus ureae
may be a cause of abortion in sows.
