To the Editor: Acinetobacter species are ubiquitous in the
environment. , and his colleagues isolated the
bacterium, called Acinetobacter baumannii, from 148 wounded soldiers
returning from Iraq and Afghanistan between November 2002 and September
2003. Individually, those organisms that have a
natural resistance to certain beta lactams and beta-lactamase
inhibitors--for example, some Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas species,
and Acinetobacter species--were not common in our study. |
