lysergic acid diethylamide /ly·ser·gic ac·id di·eth·yl·amide/ (LSD) (li-ser´jik as´id di-eth´il-ah-mīd) a widely abused psychomimetic derived from lysergic acid, with both sympathomimetic and serotoninergic blocking effects. Side effects can include ataxia, fever, hyperreflexia, mydriasis, piloerection, tremor, nausea and vomiting, visual perception disorders, and varying psychiatric disturbances. Anxiety may develop into acute panic reactions, and a persistent toxic psychotic state may result.
