The name given to a cross-gendered male in Myanmar (Burma), where transsexualism, gynaemimesis, transvestism, and homosexuality are not viewed as distinct categories. Many Burmese have strong animistic beliefs and recognise 37 nats—spirit gods—one of which is a female named Manguedon who takes possession of such males imbuing them with feminine qualities and who acaults spiritually marry. Acaults are respected for their roles as shamans and seers
