Abdominal Woman A term coined in the April 21, 1923, British Medical Journal referring to a middle-aged woman, most often unmarried or childless, who constantly complains about abdominal malaise—constipation, flatulence—generalised weakness or exhaustion, mental and physical torpor, poisoned feeling, and/or vague generalised neuralgic pain. While some cases are due to endometriosis, abdominal exploration tends to be negative. The ‘condition’ itself has been termed chronic abdomen. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
