heart valve

one of the four structures within the heart that prevent backflow of blood by opening and closing with each heartbeat. The valves include two semilunar valves, the aortic and pulmonary; the mitral or bicuspid valve; and the tricuspid valve. The valves permit blood flow in only one direction; any of the valves may become defective, permitting the backflow associated with heart murmurs. Also called cardiac valve. See also heart, mitral valve, semilunar valve, tricuspid valve.

The left- and right-sided mRA communicated with the morphologic right ventricle (mRV) via a common AV valve with three-leaflets (double inlet right ventricle; DIRV).
11) It has been reported that the presence of pulmonary vein obstruction, AV valve anomaly with regurgitation, or single ventricle is a significant detrimental prognostic factor for patients with right isomerism.
In 2005, we validated quantitative echocardiographic measurements that helped in diagnosing of AVSD with no primum ASD: the measurements of the left ventricle inlet to outlet distance ratio and the percentage of the left AV valve guarded by the mural leaflet (3).
