The percentage of nitrogenous bases on double-stranded DNA which are either adenine or thymine. As a rule, molecular biologists are more interested in the GC (guanine and cytosine) content, because they bind to each other with 3 hydrogen bonds (in contrast to adenine and thymine, which share 2 hydrogen bonds), and thus an indicator of greater molecular stability.
