28) Carcinoid tumors are known to derive from the neural crest or neuroendocrine (APUD) tissues, although we are not certain whether APUD cells are present in normal salivary glands.
It belongs to the APUD tumor classification (amine precursor uptake and decarboxylation) and has an unpredictable biologic behavior.
