AKAP8

A gene on chromosome 19p13.1 that encodes a member of the structurally diverse A-kinase anchor protein (AKAP) family, which binds to the regulatory subunits (RI/RII) of cAMP-dependent protein kinase A (PKA), confining the enzyme to discrete locations within the cell based on different targeting motifs. AKAP8 binds to the RII-alpha subunit of PKA, and may play a role in chromosome condensation during mitosis by targeting PKA and the condensin complex to chromatin.
