AIS,
n active isolated stretching; a sequence of stretching exercises that encourages flexibility by combining active stretching and reciprocal inhibition (RI) methods. The move-ments are performed repetitively until adequate progress has been made. Unlike muscle energy techniques, these exercises do not make use of the numerous benefits of postisometric relaxation (PIR). See also MET and PIR.
