A combination of symptoms, including fever, lymphadenopathy, blood abnormalities, and susceptibility to opportunistic infections that is a precursor to AIDS in some individuals infected with HIV.

Meningococcemia: an undescribed cause of community-acquired bacteremia in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and AIDS-related complex.
The Institute of Medicine (1986) cited a longitudinal study which compared levels of distress in homosexuals and found that those who suffered from AIDS-related complex (ARC) had greater psychological problems.
The MeSH headings grew with the terminology of the disease, with the term AIDs-Related Complex established in 1987, terms for the family of HIV Infections in 1990, and terms for HIV Antigens, HIV Antibodies, HIV Envelope Protein GP120 and other concepts now available.
