5-HTP,
n an amino acid that is a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin. Supplementation of this amino acid is claimed to be useful in treating depression, fibromyalgia, tension, and migraine headaches; as an anxiolytic; and as an adjunct to weight loss. There are no known side effects. It should not be taken concurrently with SSRI medications, carbidopa, or zolpidem.
