seventeen-day diet

A weight-loss diet developed in 2010 by Dr Mike Moreno, a family practitioner of Beverly Hills, CA. Rather than focus on rapid weight loss, the 17-day diet promotes slow and steady weight loss and exercise, which are integral to any successful diet.

Seventeen-Day Diet

A popular diet plan formulated by Dr Mike Moreno in which the regimen is divided into 17-day cycles, during each of which the dieter loses up to 12 pounds.

Cons
Too low on calories, fruits, vegetables and grains.

Seventeen-Day Cycles
• Cycle 1: Accelerate—Fish, poultry, ad lib "cleansing" vegetables, low-sugar fruits (up to 1400/2pm), two servings of probiotic foods (such as yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi and kefir) and a splash of good fats (e.g., flaxseed and olive oils).
• Cycle 2: Activate—The premise behind this phase is that the body has gotten used to a certain regimen and will now metabolise the food at a faster rate. Here, lean red meat, whole grains, legumes and starchy vegetables can be consumed.
• Cycle 3: Achieve—In this phase, healthy foods are added.
• Cycle 4: Arrive—Long-term maintenance of weight and diet.
