ten-day rule

A rule proposed by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) for women of reproductive age, that "whenever possible, one should confine the radiological examination of the lower abdomen and pelvis to the 10-day interval following the onset of menstruation", a precaution linked to the teratogenic effect of radiation, despite the low levels normally delivered in diagnostic imaging.
