A constituent of the catecholamines, epinephrine and norepinephrine, and dopa; used externally as an antiseptic.
pyrocatechol/py·ro·cat·e·chol/ (pi″ro-kat´ĕ-kol) a compound comprising the aromatic portion in the synthesis of endogenous catecholamines; it has been used as a topical antiseptic and as a reagent.
a metabolite of tannic acid used as a topical antiseptic. Prepared synthetically or extracted from powdered catechu. Called also catechol.
