Q. My son is 14 years old now but was born autistic. My son is 14 years old now but was born autistic. His friends do not understand this and I get very angry and depressed and my son feels frustrated. My son`s friend`s make fun of him and feel that he is a clown. They say that he should be a theater actor. They are constantly making fun of him and asking him if he can write a play in which he can act. I feel I should take my son away from these situations as my son ends up crying every day. Are there any organizations that can help me as I need him to study in a special school where everyone can understand his problem?

A. I think this is good idea. There are many special schools and organizations that you can contact. There are many schools for autistic children where they are trained according to their aptitudes. Your son might have hidden talents which as a parent is very difficult to find out especially if the child is autistic. Find a good school where your son would blossom and be happy which would make you feel content. Do this as soon as possible as there is time for your son to acquire knowledge, learn to move around with other students of the same age and realize his talents thereby enhancing his brain functioning and social skills.

Q. Does anyone know the cause of autism? How to prevent my soon to be born daughter from having autism? I'm currently pregnant and wonder if there's anything I have to do to prevent autism? Is it true that certain vaccines can cause autism? Thank you

A. Autism is strongly hereditary. Not much control there. Do what you can to aid your child intellectually: Consume fish oil to raise his intelligence. Don't smoke or drink alcohol - that will decrease his intelligence. If autism runs in you family then avoid vaccines with the preservative thimerosal.
